CIC Governance & Asset Lock

SSS Competence, Wellbeing & Skills CIC (company number 16718061) is a registered Community Interest Company, regulated by the Office of the Regulator of Community Interest Companies. We are committed to transparency, accountability, and public benefit in all our activities.

Our governance includes robust safeguards on equality, safeguarding, and data protection (GDPR). We maintain a register of potential conflicts of interest, operate fair and transparent decision-making processes, and produce audited reports and public impact statements. These measures protect the communities we serve and provide the assurance expected by regulators, funders, and partners.

An asset lock is the legal safeguard that defines every Community Interest Company. It ensures that the assets and surpluses of the CIC are retained for the benefit of the community and cannot be distributed for private gain. 

Every pound generated through our activities is reinvested into our mission or directed, with regulatory approval, to another approved asset-locked body or charity. 

 Our nominated asset-locked body is Walking 4 Hope (charity number 1202602), 17 Braemar Road, Mansfield, NG19 0LL. 

Walking 4 Hope promotes wellbeing and resilience through nature-based programmes that support vulnerable people and strengthen communities. 

All surpluses generated by SSS Competence, Wellbeing & Skills CIC are retained for community benefit. As set out in our governing documents, this includes:

• Supporting Walking 4 Hope, our named asset-locked body. 
• Funding Patchills Pantry, which provides free meals for local people in need. 
• Supporting Beaumond House Hospice, contributing to community health and wellbeing. 
• Sponsoring local youth sports programmes, including football kits and activities that promote inclusion, confidence, and community spirit.
   

With the consent of the CIC Regulator, the CIC may also support other non-nominated asset-locked bodies or aligned charities in the future, ensuring that all surpluses are used to maximise public and community benefit.

The asset lock is our guarantee that no assets or surpluses can ever be distributed to private individuals or companies. Every resource is directed towards advancing safety before profit, the prevention of harm, improved wellbeing, inclusion, and sustainability.

This safeguard ensures that our mission is not only a commitment but a legal obligation. Every decision we take is measured against the community interest test and is accountable to the people and communities we serve.
